Suction cups, beer or magic creams for larger or firmer breasts?

Suction bells, beer or magic creams: unfortunately, breastfeeding myths have not gone out of fashion. As the mother of a young teenage girl, I am currently in explanation mode anyway and have therefore made it my mission to debunk these myths, some of which are quite dangerous.

We used to whisper some „wisdom“ in each other's ears and had no idea what the truth of it was – after all, the big sister of our friend from the gymnastics club told us and therefore it was definitely true. It took us a long time to realize that we had been misinformed.

Nowadays, with education in schools and many expert websites, I assumed that such misinformation would no longer do the rounds. Well, I was wrong and even some adults are not immune. I have therefore decided to look into the common myths and show you the origins of three very curious examples here.

Beer? I was also speechless at first

A short time ago, a young woman told me about a trick for getting bigger breasts. Hold on tight, this is where it gets curious: women should rub their breasts daily with a certain type of beer and not wash it off afterwards.

Rub beer? Exactly. I was also speechless at first and immediately thought about how unpleasant this smell must be.

But once I had recovered a little from this really bad nightmare, I started to do some research and it took me less than a minute to understand where this myth came from. As we all know, beer is made from hops. This contains what is known as phytoestrogen, which acts in a similar way to our own estrogen, but the amount present in a bottle of beer (or even ten bottles) is far too small to have any effect on our hormonal system.

Somehow I assumed that wet nurses were extinct

So I wanted to know and asked if she knew the tip from the 80’s about skipping the bra. Of course she knew it: When you're young, you should never wear a bra or top as a woman, otherwise your pectoral muscle will shrivel up and you'll soon get a pronounced bump.

How well I remembered those words! They were already doing the rounds from the 4th grade onwards. It even went so far that some girls didn't wear bras, but got into trouble when the PE teacher made us run laps around the sports field.

Slightly larger breasts in particular are happy to have good support thanks to an appropriate bra, because no matter how well our chest muscle is trained, it sits behind our chest and unfortunately cannot reach forward to counteract gravity. Whether and when a breast begins to sag is fundamentally dependent on the connective tissue. A study by French professor Jean-Denis Rouillon was falsely used as supposed proof for the claim that bras cause sagging. Unfortunately, the study is based on a non-representative group of women and is therefore not conclusive, but the wet nurse was born and if it hasn't died…

Magic creams made from left-winged unicorn dreams;unicorn tears and antioxidants from the Phoenix fruit

We all know the advertisements (not scientifically proven) about the effects of creams for firmer or larger breasts.

Most of them are quite expensive and promise the customer incredible results. You might think that the creams are made from leftover unicorn tears and antioxidants from the Phoenix fruit. But in many cases, these products consist of almost nothing at all, except a ton of fragrances or sometimes even banned ingredients.

Fingers off

And last but not least, there is a mechanical technique that is also doing the rounds as an immortal wet nurse tale and which I personally classify as achieving exactly the opposite. It is the method using suction cups. Apparently the vacuum is supposed to stimulate cell growth and this increases the size of the breast. Yes, this method may enlarge the breast in the short term, but at the same time the tissue is severely overstretched and you end up with a few bruises as a result - don't do it, is my advice at this point!

Expert advice is always a good idea

There are several factors that can contribute to sagging breasts, such as age, genetics, pregnancy and breastfeeding, weight fluctuations and smoking. But you definitely can't just put cream on your breasts or treat them with beer to make them bigger or firmer - and that's just useless nonsense.

What you can do to optimize the appearance of your breasts is to eat a healthy diet, exercise, give up cigarettes and use body creams that moisturize the skin. However, if you are still not happy with your breasts, you can make a no-obligation appointment at the Breast Atelier to discuss possible options – in this case, expert advice beats any wet nurse.
