I stopped breastfeeding my second child six months ago. Now my breasts have lost shape and volume. I feel uncomfortable with my bust size and want to do something about it. Am I still too young for a breast lift at the age of 28? Greetings, Martina Koch

Whether breasts lose tension and fullness after breastfeeding depends on the weight of the breast tissue, the amount of fat in the mammary gland tissue and the elasticity of the skin. There are different solutions for women who want to restore their breast shape and size after breastfeeding.

If the breast has lost volume after breastfeeding, the shape and size can be restored with a customized implant. It plumps up the breast and also returns a slightly drooping nipple to its original position.

If the nipple has shifted downwards significantly, for example because the skin is not particularly elastic, a tightening or lifting operation can be performed. This involves removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple.

Depending on how much the breasts have changed due to breastfeeding, a combination of these two methods is recommended: A nipple lift with simultaneous tightening of the skin and insertion of an implant.

With every pregnancy, the breasts change anew. We therefore recommend waiting until after family planning is complete before having a breast lift. This is also because a breast lift can affect the ability to breastfeed. However, a slight nipple lift or an implant does not affect the ability to breastfeed.
