Breast surgery abroad: my personal nightmare and ordeal

Don't make the same mistake I did!

I would like to tell you about a personal experience that caused me a lot of stress for a long time and made me realize the importance of thorough research before undergoing cosmetic surgery. In the hope of sparing other women similar nightmares, I would like to share my story with you here.

My desire for a breast correction

The desire for a breast correction did not arise overnight. Even in my youth, I noticed that my breasts were not symmetrical. One breast was almost two sizes smaller than the other and not at the same height.

In the beginning, I tried to ignore this fact and hoped that the problem would resolve itself, as I was not yet fully grown. Over the years, however, I realized that my asymmetry would not simply grow out or be concealed. Every purchase of bras or swimsuits became a hated challenge. I felt uncomfortable and always wanted to hide my breasts somehow. Even at school, the changing room during sports lessons was my personal nightmare and so I never took part in any leisure activities that required me to change.

I had therefore always wanted to have my different sized breasts corrected in order to have normal breasts.

My decision to have breast surgery abroad

After intensive research, I came across a clinic abroad that advertised very tempting offers and low prices. Even one of my friends knew another friend who had already had surgery there and was very happy with the result. In that case, the clinic had to be very reputable and without giving it a second thought, I decided to go down that route.

In hindsight, I was annoyed for a long time about my easy-going attitude at the time and was incredibly angry with myself. I naively thought that all surgeons had the same expertise and that the result of my operation would be the same regardless of the choice of doctor.

The day of the operation

As the day of the operation approached, I was full of anticipation and optimism. So I flew abroad and was welcomed by a seemingly professional team.

The surgeon assured me that he had already performed many similar operations successfully and that I shouldn't worry. I felt I was in good hands and could hardly wait for the operation.

A few hours before it was due to start, however, my mother wrote me a few critical text messages and sent me several links, as she had found a few worrying articles online on the subject of "snout surgery abroad". I reassured her and didn't even read the articles.

The worst hours of my life

However, when I had to stay in hospital for the first night after the operation, I experienced the worst hours of my life.

I was in a lot of pain and pressed the alarm button to call the nurse, but no one came.

I kept pressing the button and got more and more scared, but no one came. I then called my friend who took a cab from the hotel to the clinic, but he couldn't even get in because the doors were locked, there were no lights on and not a single member of staff was to be seen.

He also started to panic and started shouting around, which was probably the best idea in the situation, because someone heard him and finally opened the doors. So after an hour and a half, I was finally given some painkillers.

I couldn't sleep after this excitement anyway and I stayed awake and my boyfriend wouldn't let me out of his sight. When I saw my breasts at my morning follow-up appointment, I realized that my nightmare had only just begun.

The result was anything but nice. Not only were my breasts still different sizes, they were also unevenly shaped and asymmetrical. I couldn't believe it. How could something like this happen?

The surgeon reassured me that everything was still swollen and that I would have a perfect result in a few days. Somehow I didn't believe a word he said and I just wanted to fly home and see a „proper“ surgeon.

Unacceptable result and playing with my own health

After just under two weeks, something had already changed in my breast, but not as promised. The asymmetry was even more pronounced and in addition to the disappointing result, I also developed severe inflammation.

The pain became unbearable and I was worried about my health because one of my breasts was almost dark red and felt very hot to the touch. At this point, I realized that I had made a big mistake with this snip surgery.

I had completely put my health and appearance at risk just to save a few francs.

The follow-up treatment in Switzerland

I immediately sought out a renowned and experienced plastic surgeon in Switzerland.

At this point I would like to emphasize that unfortunately any doctor is allowed to perform cosmetic surgery, but only titles such as «Specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery» with the addition FMH. This title confirms that the doctor in question has undergone at least 6 years, often even 10 or 12 years of further training. For your own safety, it is worth paying attention to this and finding out exactly what you need to know before the procedure.

It turned out that pretty much everything had gone wrong. One of the implants had loosened and twisted and the stitched area was already festering and very painful.

After I had been given plenty of information about the options for another correction, I decided to have this procedure, which would save the actual breast correction.

This time, the surgeon explained the surgical process to me in great detail and also informed me about possible risks.

We talked about my expectations and he reassured me that the existing asymmetry could be corrected and that he would keep me closely monitored afterwards to get the inflammation under control. I also had to stay in hospital for three nights this time, but I was really grateful for that because it was totally professional this time and that took away my anxiety.

Procedure of the corrective surgery in Switzerland

The day of the operation was fast approaching and I was naturally extremely nervous. The idea that I was going under the knife again made me feel uneasy. But I knew that I had to take this step and that an experienced team was looking after me.

My mother was with me this time and was very supportive. The operation itself went very well and I was so happy to know that I was now in the hands of an experienced surgeon for the follow-up check.

The long-awaited end result

Thanks to this second operation, the result was exactly what I had hoped for at the beginning. The inflammation also finally healed and I was so happy that I had got away with a black eye.

I want to spare other women this ordeal and have therefore decided that my experience may be published here.

Always find out exactly about the clinic, the surgeon and the risks and don't put the price or any bargain, but your health first!
