Nervousness Before Surgery: Why Anxiety Is Completely Normal - and What Can Help

from Breast Atelier

A racing heart the night before, restless sleep, or a thousand thoughts racing through your mind: Almost all of our patients feel a certain amount of tension before a surgical procedure.

Whether it’s breast augmentation, a lift, or reduction—a surgical procedure is always a personal decision. The fact that feelings like respect or nervousness arise is not a sign of weakness, but a completely natural reaction of the body.

Everyone deals with tension differently. How anxiety manifests itself varies completely from person to person: Some become very quiet—they withdraw briefly, process their thoughts in silence, and hardly say a word. Others talk nonstop: for them, nervousness bursts out as a torrent of words to relieve the tension.

Both reactions are completely understandable. Here at the Breast Atelier, you’re welcome to be exactly how you feel in that moment. You don’t have to put on a front or pretend that the day doesn’t matter to you.

You Are Never Alone

From the moment you arrive at our clinic on the day of your surgery, our team will be there to welcome you personally. If you are feeling anxious or uncertain, we will take the time to calmly answer any remaining questions and put your mind at ease.

Good to know:

  • Well-established procedures: For our experienced surgical and anaesthesia team, these procedures are part of their daily routine. Every step is carefully coordinated and performed with confidence and precision.

  • Compassionate care: When you leave the preparation area and are accompanied into the operating theatre, a well-coordinated, caring and empathetic team will be waiting to welcome you.

  • Efficient procedures: Our surgeries are generally performed efficiently, in a well-structured manner and with the utmost care.

The vast majority of our patients tell us afterwards that the anticipation and waiting were actually the hardest part. The procedure itself was much quicker and easier than they had feared.

A Tip for the Evening Before Your Surgery

If you find yourself lying in bed the night before your appointment, struggling to fall asleep, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you are in safe hands.

  • Try to enjoy a calm and relaxing evening. A warm bath, a good book or soothing music can often help you unwind more effectively than spending time on your smartphone.

  • Give your body the rest it needs. A good night's sleep can help you feel refreshed, calm and prepared when you arrive the following morning.

  • Look forward to your results. Remind yourself why you decided to take this step and focus on the positive changes ahead.

We look forward to supporting you every step of the way, from the moment we welcome you in the morning until you leave our clinic feeling happy, relieved and well cared for.
