So, I had a breast. When I read the term for the first time, my shame grew a good deal more and I was accompanied by my two tops worn on top of each other.
The tubular breast has long been an incredibly difficult topic for us women and is associated with a lot of shame. I can still remember being quite surprised when one of my breasts developed so differently to those of my friends. They all had beautiful erect nipples and then this beautiful lower arch (underbust fold), while I desperately longed for mine. But nothing happened – on the contrary. My nipple got bigger and bigger and pointed steeply downwards. I was aware at the time that many different breast shapes existed, but I had definitely never seen my shape before and that was exactly the thought that came to mind. I had a non-normal breast and apparently there was no other like it. From then on, the sad circus of somehow coming to terms with this complex began. Only ever wearing two tops on top of each other, never showing myself topless with my boyfriend and obsessively researching what could have gone wrong. Should I not have slept on my stomach or were my years as a gymnast to blame?
In the end, it was a long time before I knew that my one breast had a very unsuitable name: a tubular breast, or colloquially, simply a bum boob. Great, another name that makes it unmistakably clear to affected women that there is definitely no nice curvature to be found.
I'll try to explain it with my own words and a simple example, because the technical language is not always easy to understand: First, please imagine a filled water balloon and next to it an icing (like the one from the confectioner). Let's mentally hold the two things in front of our chest.
A normal breast is round and the nipple is more or less in the middle - that would be the water balloon in this case. With the tubular breast, we hold the syringe at the wide end and will quickly notice that it bends immediately after our grip and falls down with the tip.
And to make it a little more technical: The tubular breast shape is an abnormal development of the female breast. The connective tissue connections are too pronounced, preventing normal growth, and the areola is often significantly enlarged. This breast deformity is divided into four different degrees of severity.
For most women, breasts are considered an essential part of their body image and have a significant impact on their self-esteem. Breast deformities can range from asymmetrical breasts to the absence of one or both breasts, making it very difficult for women to feel comfortable. Psychologically, breast deformities can lead to severe feelings of insecurity, anxiety, depression and social isolation.
Today I realize how important it would have been if someone had explained this to me and shown me the possibilities of correction. But at the time, not even my gynecologist responded to my annoying question and it was dismissed as if I was dealing with an unnecessary superficiality. If the Breast Atelier had existed back then to provide uncomplicated specialist advice, I would have been spared a lot. That is, by the way, the reason why I speak so openly about it today. I want affected young women to know that they are not alone and that the Breast Atelier offers solutions.
A breast has a certain shape that is perceived as normal. Of course, there are also many differences here, from small to large breasts and from round to pointed, etc. But all variants are those with which the majority of women are equipped. However, large physical deviations from the norm are a so-called deformity and are perceived in the same way by those affected, although they have not even associated this term with it. In the case of breasts, we are talking about around 5% of women who are affected.
But what is a deformity and what is just „a little different“? Can't it just be a different kind of breast shape? Where is the boundary here? I always like to answer this question with the following example: A large nose with a hump is a matter of taste, some people find it less aesthetic and others really like this expressive shape - absolutely a matter of taste. But let's assume that this nose now extends down to the chin and perhaps there are also breathing problems and no glasses fit properly, then you can no longer simply recognize an individual shape, but in this case it would no longer be a normal nose, but a deformity.
„The resulting psychological stress also has a major impact on love and sex life.“
Women who suffer from breast deformities often suffer from psychological stress that can interfere with their everyday life. Many women feel insecure and uncomfortable in social situations, which affects their personal relationships and working life. This can lead to low self-esteem, which can lead to depression and anxiety. This can lead to social isolation and loneliness, which has a detrimental effect on mental health.
Breast deformities can also have a significant impact on a woman's sex life. Many women can develop a negative body image, leading to a marked decrease in sexual desire and intimacy. This can put a strain on their relationship with their partners and lead to relationship difficulties and conflict.
The impact of breast deformity on women's mental health cannot and should not be ignored. It is important to recognize this issue and provide women with the necessary support and resources to help them cope with their concerns. This can take the form of psychological counseling, support groups or cosmetic surgery.
It is therefore worth seeking out a psychologist for support and attending a no-obligation consultation at Breast Atelier to discuss the options for correction. Such a consultation appointment can bring a lot of clarity - regardless of which path you ultimately decide on. The important thing is that the women concerned receive good professional advice and can leave their history of suffering behind them.
