Weight fluctuations in women are known to affect not only the stomach, legs and bottom, but also the breasts, much to the chagrin of most women. The breast itself consists of connective, fatty and glandular tissue, with the proportion of fat increasing with age.
Weight fluctuations also change the volume and shape of an operated breast
With weight loss, the proportion of fat in the breast unfortunately also decreases. This largely leads to a permanent change in the volume and shape of the breast. The fact that a woman does not usually gain more weight in the breasts when she gains weight again is more due to genetic factors. Some women tend to gain weight on their stomach, others on their bottom and for some women their breasts also increase in size when they gain weight. Whether the skin can adapt to the volume changes depends on the genetic skin quality and age and on how quickly or slowly the weight reduction has taken place. With a pre-operated breast (lift, reduction, enlargement), basically the same thing happens. With implants and severe weight loss, there is also a risk that the implant could become more visible.
Only operate when the weight is stable
In order to avoid unwanted changes in shape, the desired weight should have already been reached before breast surgery (at least 6 months before surgery) and should be kept stable afterwards. It makes little sense to spend a lot of money on a more beautiful breast only to lose it again after weight fluctuations». And if a woman still wants to lose weight after breast surgery, then a slow and healthy weight reduction is the be-all and end-all - i.e. a maximum of 0.5 kg per week. Yo-yo effects should be avoided at all costs.
Weight gain during the menopause
Weight gain can also become an issue during the menopause. Take a look at the video from our former patient or read our blog article "Do breasts grow back during the menopause after a reduction?" more about this.
Our former patient, Gabriela B (54 years old), tells us why she decided to have a breast reduction decided, what influence pregnancy and menopause had, what her biggest problems were before the breast surgery, how she remembers the breast surgery at Breast Atelier, what she advises other women who also suffer from overly large breasts and how she feels today.
