Three breast surgery methods

Breast augmentation with implants is one of the most thoroughly researched surgical methods. The implants we use are high-tech products of the highest quality.

For patients with good tissue quality who desire a natural aesthetic appearance and moderate implant sizes (up to approx. 300 ml), we also offer an innovative method: Motiva Preservé™.

Provided that the conditions are met, a combination procedure (implants and autologous fat) can be considered in individual cases.

In most cases, breast augmentation using autologous fat alone (without implants) does not lead to a lasting satisfactory result. In addition, multiple operations are usually necessary. As a result, we only offer this surgical method (with autologous fat only) at the express request of the patient and not at a fixed price.

Highest quality implants

A basic distinction can be made between implants containing saline, hydrogel and silicone. We only use the most modern, high-quality implants filled with cohesive silicone gel.

The advantages: they cannot leak due to the strongly interwoven molecular chains, feel pleasant and soft to the touch (similar to biological breast tissue) and produce very beautiful, natural results.

We also offer breast augmentation with B-Lite implants, which are comparatively lighter in weight. However, the use of these implants is only suitable in selected cases and cannot be offered at a flat rate. If you are interested, please discuss this in your personal consultation.

Implant size

Our surgeons take a lot of time to understand your needs and your ideas in detail, using 3D simulation to assist them.

The most important thing for us is that our patients are very satisfied with the final result. This is also reflected in the ongoing satisfaction survey, in which 97% of all our patients rate the result and our services with the top rating of "very satisfied".

Round vs teardrop-shaped

Modern breast implants offer two proven shape options, each with their own advantages. The choice of the optimal shape depends on your individual anatomy, your aesthetic wishes and various medical factors.

Teardrop-shaped (anatomical) implants

Thanks to dimensionally stable silicone gel, these implants retain their natural teardrop shape in any position. They are particularly suitable if a soft, natural breast contour is desired and can create a very harmonious décolleté.

Round implants

This classic implant shape creates an even fullness and, depending on the initial situation and placement, can lead to beautiful, natural results. They are the ideal choice for certain body proportions and wishes.

Your individual solution

The final shape is influenced by several factors:

  • Your natural breast shape and tissue structure
  • The placement (above or below the pectoral muscle)
  • Your personal aesthetic preferences
  • Your body proportions

During the detailed consultation, we analyze all relevant aspects together and find the implant shape that suits you perfectly. Both options can lead to a naturally beautiful result - the decisive factor is professional, individual adaptation to your needs.

Ideal incision

The implant is inserted via a short incision made in the breast fold beforehand. Great importance is attached to sterile insertion and, at the same time, to making the incision as short as possible, so that the subsequent scar is as small as possible. Find out more here.

Placement methods

During breast augmentation, the implant can be placed in different tissue layer of the body.

The aim of optimal implant placement is to place enough of the patient's own tissue over the implant. Only then can a natural and full breast shape be achieved. In addition, the risk of the implant being felt or the edges being seen is minimized.

If the patient has sufficient tissue of her own, we prefer subfascial placement: the implant is placed under the mammary gland with the muscle fascia taken along. This method offers decisive advantages over purely subglandular placement - the fascia provides better support for the implant and a more stable position.

If the patient does not have sufficient tissue of her own, the implant must be placed in deeper layers to counteract so-called "rippling" (visible rippling of the implant under the skin).

The dual-plane method offers the ideal solution here: the implant is placed partly under the pectoral muscle and partly under the mammary gland. This means that the implant is covered by the muscle in the décolleté area, while the lower part lies under the mammary gland. This produces stable and aesthetically pleasing long term results.

With Motiva Preservé™, Breast Atelier Zurich offers an innovative method of breast augmentation that preserves tissue and respects the natural anatomy.

Preservé™ at a glance | Key facts

  • Tissue-preserving technique through gentle stretching instead of preparation
  • Small incisions of 2 to 2.5 cm for virtually invisible scars
  • Subglandular position (above the muscle) with natural breast movement
  • Ideal for moderate implant sizes up to approx. 300 ml
  • Recommended for patients with good tissue quality and a desire for natural aesthetics

Gentle tissue stretching instead of preparation

The implant space is not prepared in the traditional way, but gently stretched. This technique avoids unnecessarily separating tissue and makes it possible to preserve the sensitive structures of the breast to a large extent.

Minimal scarring thanks to tiny incisions

Smaller incisions measuring 2 to 2.5 cm made using special surgical instruments are essential for a particularly precise surgical technique that minimizes scarring and supports an aesthetically inconspicuous result.

Precise placement and gentle procedure

The stretching creates a precise space for the implant without affecting the muscle. The procedure is usually performed under sedation or short anesthesia, with a large amount of local anesthetic solution being injected into each breast. This causes controlled tissue tension and facilitates the insertion of the implant through a small incision.

Subglandular placement and natural feel

Preservé™ is used exclusively above the pectoral muscle. In combination with Motiva Ergonomix2® implants with SmoothSilk® surface, it creates natural breast movement that adapts harmoniously to the body shape. Many patients appreciate the discreet access, short recovery time, and soft, authentic feel.

Limitations and requirements of the technology

However, this technique has clear limitations. It is suitable for implant sizes up to approximately 300 ml, requires good tissue quality, and is not ideal for very slim patients, those with pronounced breast ptosis (sagging breasts), or those who have undergone previous surgery. In such cases, alternative procedures are recommended.

Requirements

Only a small amount of fat is required for this method. It is therefore also possible and helpful for slim patients.

Advantages

These combination procedures are becoming increasingly common because because they allow the breast volume and shape to be changed in a targeted and individualized manner.

There is often little autologous tissue in the lower part of the breast fold. The implant is therefore sometimes noticeable or even visible. Through the targeted use of autologous fat, these areas can be retouched by thickening them, achieving a very natural result.

Particularly in thin women with little breast tissue, the visibility of unsightly implant edges can be prevented.

With the autologous fat, existing asymmetries can be compensated for very precisely. In addition, the autologous fat makes the skin softer and thicker, which means that the implant can be better covered.

An often appreciated side effect is that annoying fat deposits (such as on the abdomen, flanks, outer thighs, etc.) are removed, thereby improving the contours of the body.

Placement

The implant is used for volume augmentation.
In most cases, the implant is covered in the upper area by the muscle (method: insertion of the implant under the pectoral muscle).

Procedure

The body's own fat is harvested from fat deposits, washed and specially prepared and injected into the surgical area after the implants have been inserted.

Personal support and aftercare

Immediately after surgery

Immediately after the operation, the breast is immobilized and evenly compressed with a special breast bandage. The higher pressure compared to a bra reduces the risk of secondary bleeding.

You will remain in the day clinic for at least two hours for monitoring, after which you may be picked up.

Follow-up appointments

Three follow-up appointments are necessary after the operation, the first of which takes place the very next day.

At this first check-up, a sports bra will be fitted, which should be worn consistently for six weeks. If a drain was placed during the operation, it will usually be removed that day.

You will be informed promptly of the dates for the two further follow-up appointments.

Well-being

After breast surgery, swelling or temporary loss of sensation may occur, which in most cases disappears within a few weeks. However, it can take several months before the original sensation returns completely. After around six to eight weeks, the traces of the operation are usually largely healed.

Inability to work

You should expect to be unable to work for 3 - 4 days. However, depending on your occupation, this may also be longer.

Rest from sport

You must refrain from all sports for 6 weeks, after which you can start again gently. Sports that put a lot of strain on the chest muscles, such as horse riding, strength training in the chest area or intensive yoga, should only be resumed after 3 months.

More FAQ

A basic distinction can be made between saline, hydrogel and silicone implants. We only use state-of-the-art, high-quality implants made from cross-linked silicone. The advantages: they cannot leak and produce very beautiful, natural results.

After the operation, the breast will feel firmer. Only rarely do patients complain of a foreign body sensation during the first six weeks. Over time, the breast will soften and usually feel natural. In very slim patients with little subcutaneous fatty tissue, the implant may be palpable, especially on the outer side and in the lower pole of the breast.

A general replacement every ten years, as was previously recommended, is not necessary. As with other procedures involving foreign materials and implants, it cannot be ruled out that breast augmentation may require follow-up treatment over the years. However, the reason for a possible replacement is usually not the durability of the implant, but often changes in the patient's own body and tissue reactions. The likelihood of replacement increases with age.

Breast augmentation does not affect breastfeeding ability, as the implant is placed behind the milk-producing gland.

No. Extensive studies show that breast implants do not increase the risk of breast cancer.

Depending on your occupation, you can expect to be unable to work for three to four days. If you do physical work, you will be unable to work for longer. Please consult our specialists for individual advice on this matter.
