The different breast lift techniques

The aim of every form of breast lift is to lift and reshape the breast and achieve as natural a shape as possible with few visible scars.

The various techniques performed at Breast Atelier differ primarily in terms of the incision:

1. the i-method according to Léjour is a scar-saving, vertical lift that is particularly recommended for medium-sized breasts that need to be reduced in size and tightened at the same time. Excess skin below the nipple can be removed through a vertical downward incision.

2. the T method is particularly suitable for very large, very sagging breasts, as the vertical incision below the nipple is followed by a horizontal incision in the underbust crease to remove sufficient excess skin.

3. the O-method according to Benelli promises good results, especially for smaller breasts. Here, the incision is made exclusively around the areola and excess glandular and fatty tissue is removed from there.

Procedure of the operation

On the day of the operation, you will arrive at the Plastic Surgery Pyramid day clinic 45 minutes before the operation.

After your arrival, you will be prepared for the operation by our experienced team.

The procedure takes about 2 to 2.5 hours and is performed under general anesthesia.

Things to know about breast lift surgery

The volume of the new breast depends on the existing breast soft tissue, but can be supplemented with an implant if necessary. During the approximately two-hour procedure, the breast is reshaped internally and the skin above it is tightened.

The incision is made differently depending on the method. The removal of tissue and skin also changes the position of the nipples. In order to achieve a pleasing aesthetic result, the areola is therefore adjusted in relation to the new breast and the nipple is lifted into its new position without affecting sensitivity or the ability to breastfeed.

Aftercare following the operation

Immediately after the operation, the breast is immobilized with a special breast bandage and evenly compressed. The higher pressure compared to a bra can reduce the risk of post-operative bleeding.

The day after the operation, the first dressing check takes place in the Breast Atelier and a sports bra is fitted, which should be worn consistently for six weeks. If a drain was placed during the operation, this is usually also removed the next day.

After breast surgery, swelling or temporary loss of sensation may occur, which in most cases disappears within a few weeks. However, it can take several months before the original sensation returns completely. After around six to eight weeks, the traces of the operation are usually largely healed.

Another option: breast lift with implants

A breast lift with implants is recommended for women who want to regain their former breast size or would like more volume. A silicone implant gives the breast a fuller shape - especially in the upper breast area - and thus enables a permanently plumper décolleté.

However, it should be noted that the weight of the implant can put more strain on the skin than a pure breast lift without an implant, depending on the existing skin quality. If the skin quality is not optimal, there is a risk that the breast will sag prematurely due to the additional weight. To reduce this risk, a supporting mesh (e.g. Tigr-Mesh) can be used.

Implants are the method of choice for those who want a permanently filled upper pole. The result depends largely on the chosen implant size, the individual skin condition and the surgical technique used.

Plastic surgery after breastfeeding

Whether breasts lose tension and fullness after breastfeeding depends on the weight of the breast tissue, the amount of fat in the mammary gland tissue and the elasticity of the skin.

There are different solutions for women who want their breast shape and size back after breastfeeding.

Frequently asked questions about breast lift surgery

Some young women naturally have sagging breasts from puberty onwards. However, the problem of sagging breasts is more common after pregnancy or significant weight fluctuations. In all these cases, a breast lift may be advisable.

We generally perform breast surgery on patients aged 18 and over; this also applies to breast lifts. You can find more information about breast lifts at the following link.

If your breast volume is too small, you can certainly have a breast lift with breast augmentation. However, with these operations, the risk of a possible subsequent correction is higher than with a breast lift alone.

In most cases, the period of incapacity for work is approximately 4 days, but depending on the activity, it may also be longer.

The size of the breast does not change after the operation. However, the shape does change over time. Initially, the breasts will be very firm and plump. However, due to the elasticity of the skin, the skin tone will adjust and the tissue will loosen over the course of several months after the operation, so that the breasts will become softer again and take on a more natural shape. Depending on the quality of the tissue, the breasts may also drop slightly.

The lifted breast can lose a significant amount of volume, which leads to renewed loosening of the remaining tissue and sagging of the skin.

In principle, every operation carries certain risks (e.g., drug intolerance, bruising, wound healing disorders, inflammation, scarring problems, or sensitivity disorders). These also depend on the individual's state of health. In very rare cases, breast lift surgery can lead to circulatory disorders in the breast tissue or nipples, which can then result in tissue loss, sensitivity disorders, loss of pigmentation in the nipples, or scarring. As a rule, breastfeeding ability is not impaired by a breast lift. However, since breastfeeding ability also depends on other factors, including psychological and hormonal factors, impairment cannot be ruled out.

The 3D visualization computer needs various points on the chest in order to calculate the breast simulation. Example points are the nipple, the edge of the areola, the boundary of the breast in the middle, on the outside, and in the area of the underbust fold. However, the point in the area of the inframammary fold is not visible in the case of sagging and/or large breasts, which is why the simulation calculation cannot be performed.
